SALYERSVILLE - On Tuesday, May 7, 2013 Post 9 Criminal Interdiction Team as a result of Post 9 Street Level narcotics investigations, executed arrest warrants in Magoffin County.

PRESTONSBURG - Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) celebrated Spring Commencement at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky last Saturday, May 11.
The first annual Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis was held Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Ramey Memorial Park.

Brenda Powers, Assistant Vice President of the Salyersville National Bank recently presented Nancy Bays, Board Member of the Magoffin County Community Center and Marlene Howard, Director of the Center a check. Donations like those received from the bank are used to offset expenses and keep the Center open for the county's senior citizens.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 13, 2013) – Attorney General Jack Conway, along with 42 of his colleagues, today sent a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urging the agency to place a black box warning on opioid analgesics to indicate the risk of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).

Pictured right is Mr. Willie Cole, principal of Salyersvile Grade School, presenting a check for $1,400.00 for Team Tracy, to Tracy Watson. The money was collected mostly from students for cystic fibrosis.
Salyersville Grade School kicked off KPREP testing by wearing new tshirts. All students and staff received a tshirt. Mrs. Leigh Ann Arnett's second grade students are pictured above wearing their new shirts. Mrs. Arnett's class raised the most money for primary at SGS.
Students at Salyersville Grade School received trophies and ribbons for improvement and excellence on the KPREP test. These sixth grade students are showing off their trophies, ribbons, and t-shirts in preparation for testing.
Addison Patrick, Emily Bailey and Evan Reed are using scientific inquiry skills to explore and demonstrate knowledge of the Earth’s environment.
On April 19th, Career Day was held at the Magoffin County Hight School. The fifth and six grades from South Magoffin attended this event and had the chance to meet several different professionals. They enjoyed the exhibits and the question and answer time. Dr. Scott Arnett (above) and Brian Clevenger and Darren Breedings of Carl D. Perkin’s Rehabilitation Center (left) are among the many community members who attended to show students career options.
ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM: Lexi Bowling was selected for the 15th Region All Tournament Tennis Team during the 2013 Regional Tournament. Lexi finished 3rd in the tournament and advanced to the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament, held at the University of Kentucky on May 16-18. Her record at the end of this season was 10-2.
The Magoffin County High School Track Team traveled to Leslie County High School on Saturday, May 11, to participate in the KHSAA Regional 2A Track & Field Championships.
PAINTSVILLE – If lessons learned are any indication of progress, Magoffin County and first-year coach Pup Miller are ready to turn some heads.
